Five out of five stars, this one is well worth the
investment |
For years I’ve
been looking for a good video on problem solving and have been
unable to find the right combination of good information, quality
production and about 30 minutes long.
So when I was asked to work
with a top production company on a problem solving video, I lept at
the chance to make my dream video! We worked for six months on the
program and I’m very pleased with the result.
It has already helped
me solve a lot of my frustration training employees on how to do
on-the-job problem solving!
You regularly pay $400 - $500 for training videos like this from
many companies, but through the economies of the Internet we
save you hundreds on this video.
In my consulting work, I help
organizations become more customer oriented and develop their
leadership skills so I am always looking for good tools to use with
both line employees and supervisors that will give them quick and
easy ways to be more effective on their job. This video is great
for illustrating the methods of problem solving, showing how and
when to use them and why they work.

One great feature
is that it deals with the issue of motivation, why should we take
the time to learn problem solving techniques. It uses six realistic
vignettes to illustrate why using problem solving is a good idea.
Then it tells us the 6 Steps for problem solving and illustrates
each step with a realistic scenario in the work place. Not only
does is talk about the step itself such as “Define the problem” but
also the video gives tips on how to avoid common mistakes and shows
a supervisor leading a team discussion.
There’s so much practical
information packed into this little gem!
Another helpful
feature is that it illustrates the use of various problem solving
techniques like the fishbone diagram, force field analysis,
criterion reference chart and action planning. Unlike other videos,
it emphasizes how to evaluate and monitor progress of both quick fix
and longer term solutions.
If that weren’t
enough, the video explains the concept of “circles of influence” to
help employees understand what problems they should tackle and which
they should refer to another party. Also, there’s a little sub-plot
in the video which shows how a supervisor deals effectively with a
negative (don’t we all have these) employee.
There’s so much
packed into this video, the quality is excellent, different types of
work environments are portrayed and there are nice graphics to
emphasize points. I’ve already used it with managers and frontline
employees. They can watch the video individually and get a lot from
it and I’ve used it in longer training sessions by expanding
teaching on the problem solving techniques and doing some role
playing. It makes a great center piece for a training program.
Can you believe
all of this in just 30 Minutes !!!
